Mona Shores Principal to receive MSU Distinguished Alumni Award
On Monday, March 13, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. Mona Shores High School Principal Jennifer Bustard will be awarded the 2016 Nancy A. Colflesh Distinguished Alumni Award on behalf of Michigan State University’s (MSU) Educational Administration Department (EAD). MSU faculty member Madeline Mavrogordato will present the award as the first order of business during the Mona Shores Board of Education meeting to be held at Ross Park Elementary, 121 Randall Road, Norton Shores, Michigan.
According to Mavrogordato, Bustard was selected for the award because she is an exceptional
K-12 EAD alumna. “The award recognizes alumni who are excellent practitioners or researchers in the area of educational leadership. Our faculty selectsonly one individual from across all of our degree programs to receive this award annually—and this year’s winner is Jennifer Bustard,” said Mavrogordato.
During her decade as principal of Mona Shores High School, Bustard has worked with a strong administrative team, ten committed department chairs, and a nearly ninety-member group of talented faculty and staff members to serve more than 1,200 students in grades 9-12. In addition to serving as principal, Bustard is continuing her professional learning by working on her doctorate in the Organizational Leadership Program at Oakland University. She completed her Master of Arts in K-12 Educational Administration at Michigan State in 2004.
“Mrs. Bustard is passionate about high school education and her enthusiasm and work ethic is extraordinarily high. When you talk to Mrs. Bustard about Mona Shores High School it doesn’t take you long to realize the appreciation she has for our students and staff at Mona Shores High School,” said Mona Shores Superintendent Greg Helmer.
Bustard’s award honors the contributions made by K-12 Educational Administration alumna,
Dr. Nancy Colflesh, during her twelve years as an adjunct professor and three years as an assistant professor of practice in the Department of Educational Administration. Dr. Colflesh also worked as an educational consultant with aspiring and practicing educational leaders in districts across the state.
The previous recipient of this award was Catherine Ash, Ph.D., Superintendent, Okemos Public Schools. She earned her doctorate in the Department of Educational Administration at Michigan State University.
